The NCC 2024 starts on Sunday, March 10. Everyone is really looking forward to it! We would like to introduce a loyal member of the NCC organisation, Bianca van Leeuwen. She has been helping to organise the conference since 2011.
Hi Bianca, what do you in your normal life, besides organising the NCC?
I am currently self-employed. In 2020, my husband and I changed course and we travelled to Spain. We eventually bought a house there where we live for a large part of the year. We are in the Netherlands from mid-May to early October. In Spain I work remotely for several hours a week as a Project Manager, supporting administrative processes.
When we are in the Netherlands, I am available as an interim manager in healthcare. This summer I started my catering company “PAELLA Different from home”, where I come and make paella live at parties. This is for groups of 8 to 50 people. I have worked as an optometrist in the clinical setting for years and notice that I really miss ophthalmology and contact with customers. Next summer, perhaps a return to optometry in addition to my paellas.
What is the first thing that comes to mind when you think of the NCC?
Contact lenses, 2 days of inspiration and new developments, fun, many acquaintances and motivating foreign speakers.
What is your most fun/special memory of the NCC?
The enthusiasm and commitment of the team to ensure that everything runs smoothly gives a huge "kick" of energy boost.
Do you wear contact lenses yourself?
No, I wear glasses. Wearing contact lenses all day is not suitable for me. However, I do wear daily lenses for sports. Ideal!
What role do you play within the NCC organisation?
I am responsible for everything regarding hospitality and administrative matters regarding the speakers at the conference. Once the program committee has finalised discussions with the speakers, I ensure that the agreements are put on paper and that we also receive the necessary information from the speaker (photo, biography, dietary requirements, travel schedule).
I also ensure that transport is arranged from Schiphol to the conference location and receive the speakers upon arrival. During the conference days I am the point of contact for all practical matters. This year I am also in the NCC working group to provide support where necessary.
How many editions have you been part of the NCC organization?
I have been involved in the organisation of the NCC since 2011. So that's been a while. At that time, I joined to support the administrative process surrounding the speakers.
Previously this was done by Marco van Beusekom, Eef van der Worp and Ron,Beerten, but due to the growth of the congress they were looking for support. I have seen the NCC grow in number of participants and grow in professionalism.
The theme of the NCC 2024 is “Future Generation”. What do you think about this theme?
The future generation with future developments. Providing a platform for this young generation, so that they can develop into professionals. Where they can learn from the older generation. And that together on 1 stage. How beautiful is that!
Finally, what are you looking forward to at NCC 2024?
A conference with new developments and topics that are directly applicable in practice.
Add. You must go to the 2024 NCC because...
This is the largest contact lens conference in Europe with a high-quality substantive program with both Dutch and foreign speakers. In addition, of course, the presence of Scientific track.
